Okay so I just finished reading up to page 87. This part was pretty confusing with the whole night swan thing. I didn't really get who night swan was at first. I kind of thought that she was Tayos mom but then I relized that Tayos mom had actually died a while back so I'm still confused about her. And the story she tells about the big sister and the little sister seems alot alike Aunties story about the time she found Tayos mom naked. So I was wondering if that meant that night swan was around then that happened? I must say I just got confused all over again.

so my favorite quote in this section is "He felt light on his feet, happy that he would be with Rocky, traveling the world in the army, together, as brothers." I like this quote because it shows Tayos excitement at finally being accepted by someone in the family. I also really liked that Rocky called Tayo his brother it was really sweet.

  1. Well Night Swan wasn't ever really associated with Tayo, only Josiah. She also tells a story of when she had slept with a man who was married, and his wife believes that caused him to be trampled by his cattle. Yeah it was a pretty confusing part of the story

  2. I got confused too about the whole Night Swan thing. I think that Night Swan doesn't have anything to do with Tayo's mother, it was just a story to tell about Josiah.

  3. I thought that the man committed suicide in his barn. And I'm not sure if Tayo is really accepted by the family; he's accepted by Rocky, but then again, wasn't he always Rocky's sidekick?

  4. Tehani,
    Thanks for your post.
Instead of just saying you are confused, develop specific questions so that your classmates and I may be able to help you understand better.
Night Swan is there for a reason...keep reading and let's see where this develops.
I agree with Geoff in that Tayo is not truly accepted, but why isn't he?

    Thoughts,
