I though this passage was pretty descent. Once again Silko continues to use imagery and similies and many flashbacks. The flashbacks are getting less confusing i must say. I have noticed that silko also blames the white man for alot. Which is pretty true, they like tore up the clan and people in the clan started to pull away and become christians. I also think it is weird that Auntie is this hardcore christian but it seems like she doesn't like the white man or the religion. Which is kind of hypercritical. I also thought that it was sad how they expected like Tayo to be the one to die and not Rocky. Speeking of which, during that time on page 73 when she is describing them leaving, are they going off to war together? I was also wondering if the only reason why Josiah bought the cattle was so he could be with that "whore"? And is the whore the cattle seller guys cousin wife or daughter, if she is related to him. And my finall question is why did Auntie take the picture away from Tayo?
Some literary devices and good quotes are:
"Only Tayo could hear it, like fingernails scratching on a bare rock, her terror at being trapped in one of the oldest ways" Similie page 67
oh this brings me to my other question, so Tayo desciribes this undertone he can only hear, is it Auntie's or grandmas?
"He could anticipate her mood by watching her face. She had a special look she gave him when she wanted to talk to him alone. He never forgot the strange excitement he felt when she looked at him that way, and called him aside." Page 69
I think it is ironic how Auntie was the one trying to exile and shun Tayo, but they ended up being like understanding of eacho other and being pretty close.
ok well that's it.
bye

Kaitlyn,
ReplyDeleteThanks for your post. Good job seeing that Auntie is the "Christian" and yet she hates the white world, yet she wants Rocky to join the white world. Why might she be this way? What about society may be causing her to be this way?
Thoughts anyone?
